We drove from Fairbanks to Deadhorse along the Dalton Highway (locally known as the "Haul Road"). Its also possible to fly to Deadhorse from Fairbanks or Anchorage on commercial jet service. We then chartered a Cessna 172 to fly us to the headwaters of the Canning River. We canoed as far as the Ignek Valley, left our canoe where it could later be picked up by the plane, and then hiked the remaining distance to Camden Bay at the Arctic Ocean.
