Foggy Morning. We left Kathmandu by bus early on a foggy morning - it was mid-October. We passed through many harvesting scenes on our way to Trisuli Bazaar.
Village. After we left Trisuli, the scenery was highly varied and very colourful. It seemed that each village we passed had a different style of architecture. The red brick of these houses provides a nice splash of colour.
Lush Fields. It was quite hot in Trisuli, which is below 2000 ft. in elevation. As we followed the Trisuli River, slowing gaining altitude, it started to cool off and the temperature became quite pleasant. It was shortly after the end of the monsoon, and all the fields were lush and verdant.
Gaining Altitude. We're getting higher, and the Trisuli River is becoming a narrow gorge. The fields are still rich with colour.
Early Morning. I didn't have a lot of success on this trip getting up early in the morning to watch the sunrise; however, on the last day of the trek, I got up a few hours before sunrise. We were camped at a place called Chepu Bhanjyang (7600 ft) - a fantastic campsite - one of those places where "on a clear day you can see forever" - and it was a clear day. I just sat on the side of the hill for hours, watching the world get brighter, watching the sun come up, watching the world come awake. Every time I look at this image, I almost feel like I'm there.
West Langtang Glacier. This is the West Langtang Glacier, as viewed from the south side of the Langtang Valley. We had one of our more colourful sunsets on this evening.
Terraces. No matter how many times I see them, the terraced mountain sides never cease to amaze me. I can't imagine the amount of manual labour, nor the number of centuries that were required to cultivate thousands of vertical feet of mountain side.
In the Clouds. We spent three full days camped at the Gosaikund Lakes. One afternoon, just for the heck of it, several of us climbed the thousand foot ridge behind our camp site. From this high point (about 15,000 ft), the view was amazing - we could see the entire Ganesh Himal. As the sun started to set, the clouds were painted different shades of red and purple.
Morning Fog. An early morning photo at Kyangjin Gompa in the Langtang Valley. I really enjoyed those foggy mornings.
Scenic Village. As we continued along our trek, I noticed that each village we passed through had a different style of architecture. This one looked particularly nice in the late afternoon light.
Self Portrait. Another shameless self portrait. I'm at approximately 15,000 ft. here, above one of the Gosaikund Lakes. Our campsite is near my left hand. That's the Ganesh Himal in the background.
